NEPA change agents rewarded
NEPA graduates

Talented employees from some the region’s top manufacturing companies are celebrating new qualifications in manufacturing excellence.

Fourteen employees from seven companies in the region, such as Sanofi, SSL International and Corus, were recognised with NVQ Level Three qualifications in Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) after studying for one-year under the guidance of NEPA Best Practice engineers.

As company Change Agents, they will ensure that the innovative and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques are put into place in firms across the region and instilled in the company culture.

The NVQs provide the best possible preparation for achieving professional status in the industry, boosting recipients’ knowledge and employment prospects as well as improving productivity levels in firms across the region.

NEPA engineer Andrew Rispin and former NEPA engineers Alan Jones and Ian Tindle, now working full time improving productivity of companies in the region, also qualified with their NVQ Level Four in Business Improvement Techniques.

Achieved after completing three years of training on the programme, the NVQ Level Four allows the workers to maximise company profits and revenue by eliminating waste and creating flow through a business.

The change agents were presented with their awards by John Cushnagnan CBE, NEPA board chairman and former managing director of Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd, at a prize giving ceremony at the head office of One North East.

Dr Colin Herron, NEPA Dissemination of Best Practice Manager, said: “The change agent scheme is vital in ensuring that the knowledge and skills of the NEPA Engineers is passed onto the companies and Continuous Improvement manufacturing techniques are implemented long-term.

“The scheme ensures that once NEPA Engineers leave a company, the company is fully equipped and confident in continuing to improve practices themselves. This helps to improve the competitiveness of manufacturing companies’ right across the region.”
