North East process industry champion NEPIC has been honoured for its efforts promoting and supporting regional chemical businesses.
At a prestigious national award ceremony, NEPIC Chief Executive Dr Stan Higgins received the award from the Chemical Industries Association (CIA) for “Building Trust and Reputation of the Industry”.
The CIA Awards were presented on Thursday at the National Railway Museum in York. The annual awards are given to organisations and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the development and sustainability of the Chemical Industry in the United Kingdom.
The black tie event is an inspiring celebration of one of Britain’s most dynamic and significant business sectors, which remains as the UK’s only net exporting industrial sector.
The Chemical Industry continues to go from strength to strength, with March 2007 being the largest sales month ever in the sector’s history in both volume and prices terms.
On receiving the award Dr Higgins said “This is a fantastic tribute to the membership and staff of NEPIC, all of whom have worked hard to generate great ideas to ensure sustainability and growth of the sector into the future”.
“By working together, leveraging our resources we have been able to create a vibrant and fascinating view of this exciting and growing industry. Through our communication products we are pleased that so many young people are now choosing to join our industry, right here in the North East of England”
NEPIC’s Chairman, Bob Coxon added “This is a great achievement for such a young organisation. NEPIC was only formed two years ago and now has over 300 members. We all need to thank Stan Higgins and his team for their tireless and innovative approach in tackling the image problems that our industry faces”.
Ian Williams, One North East Director of Business and Industry, said: “A healthy process industry is vital for the continued growth of the North East economy and NEPIC must be congratulated for its excellent work in promoting and supporting the industry in the region.”
